We are a 3 form entry primary school of 630 children in Southport, Merseyside. Our school values are ASPIRE, RESPECT and ENJOY - We ARE Norwood. Everything we do in our curriculum is based on developing and promoting these values and we have a rich, broad and balanced curriculum with lots of exciting opportunities for children in their 7 years with us. We are proud that even in these days, we have a triennial Arts Festival (even through COVID and the lack of funding to support the arts) and we take part in lots of collaborative art work to brighten up our walls. Our school was lucky enough to take part two years ago in this competition and we thought it would be brilliant to have an Art club after school to work towards producing pieces for the competition. The children have recently started reading the fabulous book "Cosmic" by Frank Cottrell-Boyce and in Science, they will be looking at Earth and Space, so we decided to link these ideas together. All the children's work for the dot-art Schools competition is completed independently with no input from teachers. They had some input on starting with a background wash and then they were introduced to some of the Jackson Pollack to create the space effect, but then the rest was down to them...as was the shape of their artwork! We hope you enjoy looking at our ideas as much as they enjoyed doing it.
