At Smithdown Primary School, our mission statement is ‘Together We Grow’. We are a larger than average community maintained school situated in Toxteth, Liverpool and we currently have 42 different language spoken across the school. As a multicultural school, our ethos of united growth is at the heart of everything we do. Our vast diversity gives every pupil exposure to a great number of cultures within their local area. Cultural diversity is one of our great strengths and this is reflected in our Arts curriculum. The Arts is one of the important areas of life at Smithdown. It provides a platform for every pupil to express emotion, understanding and technique without the dependence on language. Children who join Smithdown Primary School often have little to no English skills. Our Arts curriculum provides many of these pupils with a sense of belonging and involvement from the onset, regardless of language barriers. The Arts at Smithdown provide every child with the ability to settle, learn and express.
