Register for dot-art Schools

Registration for the dot-art Schools competition is open from July to the end of December annually.

The competition is open to all primary, secondary and special schools based in the six boroughs of Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Wirral, St Helens, Sefton, Knowsley, Halton) and near neighbours. There are two eligible age groups for entries – Year 5 and Year 9. There is purposely no theme for the artwork entries to make it easier for you to fit it into your existing schemes of work.

To join dot-art Schools is quick and easy. You complete the online sign up form below then we email you to confirm we received it. Your school will be invoiced for the entry fee (£195 + VAT for Primary Schools or £295+VAT for Secondary Schools) in January, then we ask for entries to be submitted by February half term.

We understand the decision to take part in dot-art Schools may not be entirely in your hands – and we also know that art budgets in schools can be limited! That’s why we have created a template letter for you to share with your Headteacher/SLT which clarifies the benefits of taking part and suggests other funding options.

We will keep in touch throughout the competition stages with regular updates and reminders by email. There is also a teachers information sheet in the Teachers Resources section which outlines the stages of the competition and what you will actually need to do. If you are not in receipt of a championed place please notify your school finance officer about the entry fee of £195+VAT for primary or £295+VAT for secondary schools. They may need to raise a Purchase Order for the spending. Please advise us of the PO number by email.

By submitting this form you are agreeing to:
- Pay the fee of £195 +VAT for primary or £295 plus VAT for secondary (per school per age group) on an annual basis when invoiced in January
- Photograph and send good high-resolution images of original 2D or 3D artwork from up to 30 students, (only one submission per child) with information i.e. title, dimensions, medium
- Advertise the competition internally and externally, and campaign for people to vote for their favourite works
- Invite and encourage shortlisted students and parents to attend the prize giving and exhibition preview event
- Allow all submitted images to be used in publicity and promotional materials
- Complete evaluation on behalf of the school
dot-art Schools agrees to:
- Upload up to 30 works onto your school's own page on the dot-art Schools website
- Provide participating schools with a platform to promote their own art department activities
- Organise an exhibition of winning students work in a Liverpool city centre venue.
- Provide digital and printed marketing materials for schools including voting and exhibition flyers and posters
- Provide/present certificates to all shortlisted artists
- Present prizes to the overall winners, and runners up as judged by an appropriate panel
- To market the competition and exhibition through press releases and social media
- To work with a variety of partners and supporters to raise the profile of the competition
- Respond to feedback and suggestions where possible to develop the programme
Provide an appropriate artist to host workshops (for extra fees) when required
